Press Release Forum Privacy: Development of the GDPR must keep pace with technological development Forum Privacy: Development of the GDPR must keep pace with technological development Eliminating deficits and strengthening data protection – the EU Commission should use the opportunity to initiate improvements in the forthcoming evaluation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which is due on 25 May 2020. Since the review of the GDPR must also take into account the comments of third parties, legal experts of the German research consortium “Forum Privacy” have developed concrete proposals for improvement in their latest policy paper “Evaluation of the GDPR”.

Press Release: Automated license plate checks only within narrow constitutional limits On 5 February 2019, the 'Bundesverfassungsgericht' (Federal Constitutional Court) announced that the Bavarian Police Task Act is unconstitutional insofar as it allows the police, without further restriction, to automatically record the license plates of all passing motor vehicles by means of a license plate reading system, to store them briefly together with information on location, date, time and direction of travel, and to compare them with license plates from the search database. Experts from the "Forum Privatheit" research association have analyzed the ruling and comment on its effects.
